Laura V. Duggan MD FRCPC (Anesthesiology and Pediatrics) is a Clinical Associate Professor in Anesthesiology at the University of British Columbia. She completed her MD at the University of Ottawa. Following a pediatrics residency at Dalhousie University, she practiced pediatric emergency medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto.
This is where she acquired both her love and fear of the airway undertaking a second residency in anesthesiology at the University of British Columbia. As no airway is complete without right ventricular management, she obtained a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at Duke University.
Areas of research and teaching include cross-discipline airway management, the physiologically difficult airway, emergency surgical airway and extubation. She is a passionate supporter of freely-accessible medical education (FOAMed) with contributions including a wearable freely-accessible 3D cricothyrotomy model and The Airway App. She sits on the Canadian Airway Focus Group and is Chair of the Royal Columbian Hospital Airway Committee.
In 2017, she was awarded the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award.
