Rachel A.D. Rooney MD FRCPC, is a graduate of Queen’s University School of Medicine. She trained in Family Medicine and Anesthesia at the University of Calgary and practiced as a rural FP-Anesthesiologist in Alberta prior to completing her fellowship in Anesthesiology at Queen’s University.
Dr. Rooney was appointed attending staff in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care at Queen’s University in 2006 and has continued to practice as an anesthesiologist with a diverse practice including pediatrics, thoracics, vascular, neurosurgery, obstetrics. In addition, she has been a member of the Acute Pain Management Service and Regional Anesthesia group for the past 12 years, incorporating ultrasound into her clinical practice.
Dr. Rooney is a skilled educator with numerous post graduate and undergraduate teaching awards as well as excellent evaluations from practicing physicians. She has recently taken on the task of weaving professionalism throughout the undergraduate curriculum as the Professionalism Lead at Queen’s University School of Medicine. Recently, she has added to her teaching skills through completing the Harvard Comprehensive Simulation Workshop. Dr. Rooney has also been instrumental in developing and teaching practicing physicians using high fidelity simulation as the co-director of the Queen’s Simulation Centre: Anesthesia Crisis Management Continuing Medical Education Workshop.
