This course reviews the concepts of ultrasound image generation, the function of ultrasound machines and imaging relevant to perioperative practice including focused cardiac ultrasound (FOCUS) with most common views, abdominal ultrasound including intra-peritoneal fluid, bladder volume, IVC assessment and thorax ultrasound assessing for diaphragm motion and pleural effusion.
High fidelity simulation, live simulated patients and case discussions with ultrasound imaging serve as the course core. Substantial pre-reading is required. A pre-test and post-test will also be issued.
Regional Anesthesia ($600)
This full-day workshop is intended for healthcare professionals with limited previous experience in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia who wish to incorporate it into their practice. Participants are supported by faculty with extensive experience teaching at a variety of international conferences and societies including the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS) American Society of Regional Anesthesia (ASRA) and the American Anesthesiology Association (ASA).
Participants will have ample opportunities to perform hands-on scanning on live models in a small group setting. At the end of the workshop, participants will have acquired essential ultrasound skills for spine, trunk, upper and lower limb regional anesthesia techniques.
